Where Friendship Begins

Amity is situated in southern Yamhill County along Salt Creek and at the base of the Amity/Eola Hills. The name "Amity" comes from the name of a school that was built by two rival communities after the amicable settlement of a dispute in the late 1840’s. A post office was established near the school in 1852.

In 1859, the townsite of Amity, flanking Trade Street, the principal thoroughfare was laid out. The Oregon Central Railroad arrived in 1879, and the community was incorporated by the Oregon Legislative Assembly in 1880.

Amity has a long history of diverse agriculture and has proven itself to be as a producer of world class wines. It continues to be a place where friendships begin and where residents enjoy the simplicity of a relaxed lifestyle in small town Oregon.
